Sunrise Elementary is a Title 1 and LAP school.

Title I, is a federal program that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies and public schools with high numbers or high percentages of low income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Title I, Part A is a formula grants program for "improving the academic achievement of the disadvantaged."

A schoolwide program is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school; its primary goal is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on State academic achievement standards.

Schoolwide programs are unique because they allow schools to blend many of their federal, state, and local funds when planning their school program and budget.  Consolidated funds can be used to fund the entire school program, students in grades K-6, in both literacy and math.  Mrs. McNett is our Sunrise Title 1 teacher.

Sunrise has also received LAP (Learning Assistance Program) funding from the state of Washington.  Under this funding, we are required to document our work with students in a slightly different manner than Title 1, yet our goals for students are the same.  We are working on keeping our methods of communication very similar between the two programs.  LAP funding focuses on literacy intervention in grades K-4.  Mrs. Sherwood is our Sunrise LAP teacher.
